More than just cold plasma: therapy with a proven deep effect

PlasmaDerm® is characterised by its special principle of action: It combines the effects of cold plasma with the effect of an electric field. The electric field unfolds its effect deep into the tissue layers and increases microcirculation and oxygen saturation there – demonstrably lasting for several hours.

Why PlasmaDerm® is unique

PlasmaDerm is a direct cold plasma procedure. It generates the cold plasma directly on the wound surface - the body becomes part of the physical process. The high-frequency electrical field generated during this process can have an additional effect on the body and demonstrably increase microcirculation down to deep tissue layers.

Proven deep-acting microcirculation
Unique to PlasmaDerm®: Microcirculation has been proven to increase into deep tissue layers – an important advantage for PlasmaDerm.
Reduction of the germ load
Cold plasma inactivates even multi-resistant germs and has a positive effect on the wound environment.
Influence on inflammatory processes
Regular use of the cold plasma therapy device helps to overcome the chronic inflammatory phase.
Promotion of wound healing
The combination of germ reduction, calmed inflammation and improved microcirculation creates optimal conditions for tissue regeneration and can simultaneously reduce itching, pain and wound odour.
Effective level 1

Demonstrably improved microcirculation

For active wound healing, the tissue needs sufficient oxygen and nutrients. In many chronic wounds, microcirculation is restricted and the tissue appears pale, cool and poorly supplied with blood. PlasmaDerm® not only influences the wound surface, but also works deep into the tissue via an electrical field and improves local blood circulation.

Activation of capillary blood flow

How PlasmaDerm® specifically stimulates microcirculation

Chronic or poorly healing wounds are often associated with impaired microcirculation. PlasmaDerm® sets two mechanisms in motion here: in the short term and on the surface, the reactive species of the cold plasma stimulate the formation of the body's own nitric oxide (NO). NO relaxes the smooth vascular muscles, dilates capillaries and directly increases blood flow. The high-frequency electrical field has a long-term effect by influencing the nervous regulation of the vessels and sustainably increasing microcirculation down to the deeper tissue layers.
Noticeably better nourished tissue

Why increased microcirculation is crucial for healing

The combined effect of NO-induced vasodilation and the deep-acting increase in perfusion improves oxygen transport, nutrient supply and the removal of metabolic products. This provides the tissue with the prerequisites for essential healing processes such as cell division, cell migration, tissue formation and angiogenesis. This allows stagnating wounds to return to an active regeneration phase.
Effective level 2

Germ reduction, antimicrobial effect

A high bacterial load is considered one of the most important disruptive factors in wound healing. Germs promote inflammation, delay regeneration and increase the risk of infection. PlasmaDerm® leads to an immediate and significant reduction in the bacterial load, including multi-resistant pathogens, which are effectively inactivated.

Direct inactivation by reactive species

How cold plasma attacks germs directly on the surface

Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in the cold-generated plasma interact with the wound surface and with the water in the wound secretions and tissue. This results in a reduction of the pH value in the wound environment by one to two log levels within a very short time. In addition, the reactive species have a direct effect on the proteins and enzyme system of the germs. These rapid, multimodal changes are responsible for the antimicrobial effect.
Relieved wound environment

Less infection pressure,
less irritation

By reducing pathogenic germs, PlasmaDerm® supports a more favourable environment for wound healing. The pressure on the wound tissue decreases and the wound environment becomes calmer. Fewer germs help inflammatory processes to subside. Possible side effects such as odour or increased itching can be reduced.
Effective level 3

Support for chronic inflammation

Chronic wounds often remain in a persistent inflammatory phase - with typical accompanying symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain and significantly slower regeneration. PlasmaDerm® can provide stimuli that modulate these overactive processes and thus support more favourable conditions for regenerative processes.

Modulation of overactive inflammatory processes

Calms inflammatory processes

Cold plasma can modulate the activity of pro-inflammatory messenger substances (cytokines) and thus support the balance between defence mechanisms and regenerative processes in the wound.
Overcoming chronic inflammation

Inflammation modulation as the basis for tissue regeneration

Modulated inflammatory activity makes it easier for the tissue to switch to the next healing phase. In this way, longstanding wounds can become more responsive again and respond better to further therapy.
Effect level 4

Promotion of wound healing

PlasmaDerm® promotes wound healing and tissue regeneration through the interaction of the reactive species generated and the electric field. The reactive species stimulate the body's own signalling pathways and activate cells involved in wound healing - including fibroblasts and keratinocytes. This supports cell proliferation, cell migration and the formation of collagen. In addition, the reactive species stimulate the formation of new blood vessels and contribute to the reduction of excessive inflammatory processes, thereby increasing the resilience of the cells to oxidative stress.

Attenuation of irritation-enhancing mediators

The electric field enhances key wound healing processes

The electric field enhances these effects by increasing microcirculation deep into the tissue layers and supporting the activity of connective tissue cells.
Less itching, less scratching

Positive effect on itching, wound pain and wound odour

Cold plasma can soothe the wound environment, modulate inflammatory processes and reduce pathogenic germs. This makes the wound less irritated, which can potentially alleviate itching and wound pain. At the same time, the reduced bacterial load can minimise the development of unpleasant odours.
